11 October 2020 – Le Mans – France
A truly unlucky Sunday for the Sterilgarda Max Racing Team, since Alonso in corner 13 at 15 laps from the end of the race, unfortunately did an estimation mistake and, touching Romano’s rear tire, he fell dragging with him also his team-mate. It was a really shame for both our pilots. Luckily both of them did not report any consequence.
At the moment of the fall Romano was in tenth place and Lopez was right behind.
At the switching off of the semaphore Romano did not do a very good take off, since at the end of the first lap he lost five positions. In the next laps Romano found his pace and he succeeded to come back in the group, reaching at the sixth lap the tenth position.
Alonso instead yet from the first lap started an amazing come back to the sound of fast laps. On the finish line of the first lap he gained 4 position and at both the third and the fifth lap he was the fastest pilot on track. At the sixth lap Alonso overtook Romano, reaching the tenth position, but Romano after few corners regained his position. Unfortunately the sad end of the race happened at the seventh lap, with Alonso and Romano who roll over in the escape route of the last chicane.
A real shame sue to the pace showed off throughout the whole weekend by Romano and to the amazing come-back made by Alonso, until the moment of the fall. Last thing to say is the beautiful hug among our two pilots right after the fall.
Let us leave the floor to our two riders and our Team Owner Max Biaggi.
Romano Fenati: “It was not a lucky race. The bike was really good and the feeling with it was amazing, but in the end we crashed. I do not, know but for sure Alonso made the mistake to brake too late. Luckily there are other races, so we will do better next time.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am a little bit disappointed with the race, because unfortunately I touched Romano and I involved him in my crash. I am a little bit disappointed also for the Team. We are improving a lot and that we are going each time a little bit faster. This is crucial, but today was not a really good day, because I made a crash with my team-mate. We will try to do better next race.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “The French Grand Prix started of quite well we had the chance to do a good race with both riders. With Romano we had shown for sure a good pace and a very good confidence with this track. Unfortunately a huge mistake made by Alonso took out Romano and the two pilots have crashed and this is a shame. Now we have to think about next weekend in Aragon and we must be optimistic, because before the crash we had two riders in the top ten.”
