09 April 2022 – Circuit Of The Americas – United States
Qualifying for the Grand Prix of the Americas marks the ninth position of Ayumu, while David will start tomorrow from the 24th position.
The weather conditions on the COTA were perfect in both the sessions, although the timing was not particularly fast. The circuit was partially resurfaced and the small Moto3 had the best benefit from the new track, thanks to an increase in grip and a reduction in the depressions. In Free Practice 3 only a few drivers on the grid managed to improve, while both Ayumu and David did not improve their performance.
Our Japanese rider, thanks to the tenth time in the combined, earned direct access to qualifying 2, while David, twenty-fourth in the combined, had to participate in Q1. Our rookie, who got yesterday for the first time on the Husqvarna 2022 and also has never competed on this circuit, he got the time of 2’18.407 in qualifying, on the third of six completed laps. With this performance he was tenth in the session. Ayumu in qualifying 2 made two time attacks, getting the time of 2’16.604. For him, a gap from poleman A. Migno of 0.790 s. Six laps completed and best lap achieved at the last one.
We leave you to the words of Ayumu, David and Max Biaggi, our Team Owner, at the end of qualifying.
AYUMU SASAKI : “It was a good day, because we improved from yesterday, so this is very positive. We are just not still 100% yet, but we know what the problem is, and the team is doing the best job to fix my problems. Yesterday’s problems have been resolved, so the team did a fantastic job. Today we had another problem and I hope this will be fixed tomorrow. I think we have the pace to fight in the front, so I just need to stay calm. P9 is not what I wanted but it is not so bad either, so I will try to relax and do well tomorrow.”
DAVID SALVADOR : “I am not very happy about the position achieved in qualifying. In fact, I think I could have driven a lot faster than I did during qualifying. We have to work well tonight on the bike, in order to recover positions in the race. Tomorrow during the race I will have to do my best!”
MAX BIAGGI – TEAM OWNER : “Qualifying not very bright for our drivers. For David it is the first time he has seen this circuit and it is the first time he got on the 2022 Husqvarna, so he needs more time to adapt. As for Ayumu, tomorrow starting from the third row, he will have to try to stay in the leading group and this will be possible only if he can improve his pace.”
