07 March 2020 – Losail International Circuit – Qatar.
At the end of the Qualification Round of the Grand Prix of Qatar. R.Fenati results eighteenth, whereas A. Lopez is twenty-fourth. The session of tests of this morning, because of the bad conditions of the track, has prevented an improvement of the times of the major part of the pilots. For this reason Alonso had to tackle the Qualifying 1.
2’06.511 has been the best lap of Alonso, this will allow him to take of in ninth row. As usually happens in Moto3 and especially in a track with a very long straight line as the one of Losail, a long line of pilots can be formed and happen sometimes of do not be in an optimal position.
For what concerns Romano his ninth place, gained at the end of the three round of free practice, has permitted him to access directly the qualifying 2. In the two useful laps done, Romano has attained as best time 2’06.165. His time is 1.350 s slower than the poleman one. The eighteenth position does not prevent any possibility to fight for the places that count, as in Moto 3 is always possible to perform an amazing come back.
Here are the words of the protagonists:
Romano Fenati: “It was not a good Qualification Round for us, we are working to fix the bike for the race. Tomorrow we can do a good race if we will have a good start, staying with the leading group. Today in the qualifying we had some problems to find a good contrail. Anyway, we are not far and this gives us confidence to continue to work”
Alonso Lopez: “I am more or less happy with the result because I had to improve a lot. I think that I am strong with a tier with a lot of laps and this will be important for tomorrow’s race. Tomorrow there will be a very good group and I think that for tomorrow I have a very good bike that is confortable when I want to pass some riders in a corner. I think that tomorrow we will have the chance to improve a lot in the race.”
Max Biaggi Team Owner: “Qualifying not so lucky for our pilots today. By now is well-known that in Moto3 is always fundamental to have a good contrail, especially on the straight line that long. Alonso had not succeeded to pass the Q1 and as often happens in Moto3 some little incomprehension with the other pilots, did not work well for him. Something similar also for Romano, who in his best lap failed to express himself at best. We stay positive for the race, especially in light of the good performances shown by our pilots in this weekend.”
