06 March 2020 – Losail International Circuit – Qatar.
The first day of practice on the Losail’s track in Qatar has been completed, with the ninth place of Romano Fenati and the twenty-first place of Alonso Lopez. Reminding that the first 14 drivers have direct access to the Qualifying 2, whereas the others can access it by classifying themselves in the first four places in the Qualifying 1. The weather forecasts for tomorrow are not good, thus a place in the first fourteen becomes crucial, to avoid the cut of the Q1.
The work throughout the day for our two pilots has been sketched out in different ways. As a matter of facts the flu has limited Romano during the test’s days. It has prevented him to test some pieces and some settings for his FR250 GP. Therefore in those tests they are trying to catch up the time lost. The track is progressively improving and from the morning session the time references are decreased by more than one second.
Romano throughout the two sessions of today has done 24 laps. He managed to do his best lap during the FP2 with the time of 2’05.248. His time is 0.771 s slower than the fastest one. During his second run he has done two laps with the time of 2’05 low.
Throughout the morning Alonso has begun really well managing to conclude the first session in third place. Unfortunately in the Free Practice 2 he was not able to improve his time. Thus he results to be in twenty-first place. His time is 1.218 s higher than the leader’s time. 26 are the laps done by our pilot in the two sessions of the practice.
Here are the words of the protagonists:
Romano Fenati: “I am very happy of this first day of tests. In my opinion we are not far from the leaders. We have had some little normal problems with the setting, but tomorrow we will be surely ready for the for the qualifying.”
Alonso Lopez:”I am very happy of my first day. I think that I can go really fast and this is makes me feel confident. For tomorrow I think that we are ready to fight in the Q2 and this is crucial. I hope that we will enter there. We have to change a little bit the gear box. I think that I have a good confidence with the bike. I am fulfilled about that. Thanks to my team”
Max Biaggi Team Owner: “Today the World Championship has officially begun and at the end of this first day of tests Romano is in ninth place whereas Alonso is in twenty-first place. These times count to a certain extent. As a matter of fact the important part is to adjust the setting for the race. Both Romano and Alonso still have to fix some little particulars and for this reason I aspect from both of them an improvement. We can say that we have begun in the right way.”
Appointment tomorrow at 10.55 for the Free Practice 3.
