17 March 2022 – Pertamina Mandalika Circuit – Indonesia
For the first time a World Championship race will take place on the Mandalika circuit. Unfortunately John is forced at home due to the injury occurred in a supermotard training session. For John, two fractured vertebrae, but luckily no surgery, since the fracture is compound. He has already started physiotherapy and the hope is that the fracture will be quickly healed, so that he can get back to the track for the Argentine Grand Prix.
This is not a very lucky time for Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing team. In fact, after the withdrawal of Ayumu, caused by a problem with the rear tyre, after showing an overwhelming superiority in the race, this weekend the team will have to give up the head coach of Ayumu Lele Martinelli, because he tested positive to Covid and for the same reason our team manager Peter Ottl had to stay at home.
The circuit on which this second grand prix is held is located in Mandalika, Indonesia on the island of Lombok and was inaugurated at the end of 2021. It has a length of 4200 km, with 6 curves on the left, 11 on the right and a straightaway of 507 m.
The word goes to Ayumu and our Team Owner Max Biaggi.
AYUMU SASAKI : “I am very excited to go to Mandalika for the first time and try the new track. We had a great feeling in Qatar, we couldn’t finish it in a good way, but we are gaining confidence. I just can’t wait to go back on track and to give my 100%. Hopefully we can get a good result, because we have been doing a great job until now. So I just can’t wait to race for the second time of the year.”
MAX BIAGGI – TEAM OWNER : “I am sorry that this beginning was characterized by a lot of bad luck for us. John got injured and it is good that the fracture is composed. I hope he gets well soon, because we are waiting for him. As for Ayumu, I think he is the moral winner of the Qatar Grand Prix, because without that problem he would have won easily, given the high gap accumulated. Now we must work hard for this weekend.”
