Following partially the weather forecasts, the rain showed up on the Red Bull Ring at fifteen minutes from the end of the free practice 2. This has prevented to fifteen pilots out of thirty-one to improve their best time, sealed throughout the morning session. At the end of the first day of free practice Romano is in sixteenth place, while Alonso is in twenty-first position, with a gap from the leader in the combined ranking T. Arbolino respectively equal to 1.129 s and 1.397 s.

Romano in the two sessions did totally 25 laps, of which 15 in the free practice 2, with a best lap of 1’37.679.
Instead Alonso did 28 laps, of which 11 throughout in the afternoon session and a best lap equal to 1’37.947.

The arrival of the rain has change the planes of almost all the teams, preventing to do a final time attack. In the last session, that will take place tomorrow morning it will be fundamental to try to improve, in order to directly enter into the qualifying 2, hoping that the weather conditions will allow it.
Here are the impressions of the protagonists about this first day of practice of the Grand Prix of Austria.

Romano Fenati: “The free practice of today did not go very well. We need to try to work more on the braking phase, that is crucial on this track. Tomorrow we will need to work a lot, in order to regain some positions.”

Alonso Lopez: “I am very happy, because I think that today I started to feel the bike and this is a very good step for me and the team, because if I know where is the limit I can go faster. This is the most important aspect of today. I also think that we are working in the the right direction.”

Max BiaggiTeam Owner: “This first day of Free Practice has been influenced by the weather, because in the last minutes of the afternoon session rained. Both Alonso and Romano at the beginning of the session went rather good, then they had some difficulties. I hope that tomorrow, no matter what the weather conditions will be, they will do some good qualifying.”
