07 August 2020 – Automotodrom Brno – Czech Republic.
For the fourth leg of the championship the MotoGP makes a stop on the Brno circuit in Czech Republic. Historically this Grand Prix has always taken place in this period. Thus there are not evident differences, concerning the temperatures with respect to the previous years. It is the opposite of what occurred in the previous two races. This allowed the teams to plan the first setting of the bikes, with the data already owned.
Unfortunately for what concerns the Sterilgarda Max Racing Team, there is the need to consider that both Romano and Alonso this year have changed the bike, hence the adaptation work is continue session after session. Throughout the two sessions held today, the 60% of the pilots sealed the best time during the Free Practice 1.
Romano in the combined ranking is in tenth place, with the time of 2’09.575 and a gap from the leader, G. Rodrigo, of 0.963 s. In the free practice 2 he reached the third place, succeeding in almost replicate the morning time.
For what concerns Alonso, he also sealed his best time during the FP1, with the time of 2’09.785. In the Friday combined ranking our pilot results to be in fifteenth place, with a gap from the leader of 1.173 s. Unfortunately in the afternoon session, at twenty minutes from the end, complicit to an evident issue of the asphalt in the corner 6, he run into an harmless slip.
Here are the impressions of the protagonists about this first day of practice.
Romano Fenati: “It has been a very positive day. We have started strong this morning and we have even improved the trend throughout the afternoon session. We had some issues at the beginning of the second session, that we solved shortly after. We hope that tomorrow morning we will do a good job, so that we will automatically reach the qualifying 2. It would be crucial for the race to do a good qualifying.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am very happy to be here for another time and to have the opportunity to do some more kilometers with my Husqvarna. I really like this track and from the first moment I have felt really confident with the bike. I feel that I am improving step by step. In the FP1 I did a very good job, while in the FP2 I had more difficulties. For me is it crucial to have some references on the track. I have lost some confidence due to a crash, but I think that I will go faster and faster over time, because I feel really good on the bike and I have faith in my Team.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “In the free practice 1 both our pilots have obtained good results. Unfortunately in the second session of the afternoon, Alonso run into a slip that has ruined his session. Romano did well in both the sessions and this gives us hope. There is still the session of free practice that will take place tomorrow, but i believe that this track is optimal for Romano, in order to do a good result in the race.”
