05 August 2022 – Silverstone Circuit – Great Britain
The first Friday after the long summer break ends with a fantastic result for our John. His 2’10.939 is three tenths from the absolute record of the track and also managed to detach the most direct chaser by more than four tenths. A great result, not coincidental at all! In fact, in the last two races before the break, John, after missing five races for his back injury, with his team has done a great job, in order to improve the setup of his Husqvarna, so he can adapt it to his driving style. At the eleventh of the thirteen laps completed in free practice 2, John made no mistake, managing to get his best time in three of the four split time, which allowed him to be unreachable for any other driver. The weekend is still long, but today’s performance is an excellent basis for continuing to do well.
Even Ayumu has expressed itself at very high levels, in fact since the first session of the morning, he has been among the fastest. In free practice 1 he was eighth, while in the combined rankings on Friday he is tenth, with a time of 2’11.913: Ayumu in FP2 completed thirteen laps and charged a gap from his teammate of 0.974 seconds.
Here are the words of John, Ayumu and our Team Owner Max Biaggi.
JOHN MCPHEE : “It has been a really nice day here in Silverstone, in my own GP. I enjoyed the day a lot. The support from the home fans and the crowd always helps and so it is nice to finish day one with no problems. We have been able to do a lot of laps already in FP1 and in FP2 we were faster and managed to build up a small margin, so it is certainly a nice way to start the weekend. It is nice for me to be able to ride a little bit freer after the 5 weeks of the summer break, having time to recover and come stronger after my injury. It is nice mostly to ride a bike that feels like mine. For the moment it is only day one, we won’t get excited too much, but I am happy to finish the first day with this result.”
AYUMU SASAKI : “It was a good day, coming back to Silverstone, I had a good first day, I was quite consistent, I felt good on the bike again, and even though we missed a little bit of front feeling, I think that tomorrow we can improve since we know where we need some work. We are confident that we will be stronger tomorrow. P10 today, I enjoyed so much riding after the 5 weeks break. Let’s see what we can do this weekend, but for sure we will be in the front fighting again and hopefully, we can finish strong.”
MAX BIAGGI – TEAM OWNER : “A great start for John. He managed to get a time very close to the absolute record, breaking away decisively from his most direct chaser in the standings. We will enjoy this Friday and continue to work to confirm John’s achievements and to improve Ayumu’s performance.”
