19 September 2020 – Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli – Misano Adriatico – Italy
In the qualifying of the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna Romano confirms his excellent feeling reached with his FR 250GP, managing to gain a spot in second row, as it occurred next week. He will take off from the sixth position on the grid, with a gap from the leader R. Fernandez of 0.256 s and the time of 1’41.961. Our pilot improved his best pole by 0.643 s. Romano did 7 laps and he was able to do his best time in the third lap, managing to replicating it for other two laps. As it is happening from the beginning of the championship, our pilot sealed his best lap without the slipstream of other pilots. We want to remind that Romano gained the direct access to the qualifying 2, with the time of 1’41.661, which is lower than the previous track record.
For what concerns Alonso, throughout his Saturday he had some difficulties. Indeed in the free practice 3 he was not able to improve his time, sealed in the preceding sessions of free practice and thus he had to do the qualifying 1. In the qualifying session, during the fourth of the eight laps done, he sealed the time of 1’42.868, which is faster than his best pole by 0.850 s, but this has not allowed him to have access to the qualifying 2. He will take off from the twenty-third position on the grid. We take a chance to remind that, due to the penalty received during the Grand Prix of San Marino, he will have to serve a long lap penalty. He will be free to do it at any moment in the race.
Here are the words of the protagonists.
Romano Fenati: “I am very happy about this qualifying, especially because I obtained that time without any contrail. This gives me a lot of confidence. The bike is really good and tomorrow we will have to try to do a good race. It will be crucial to take off well so that I will remain in the leading group.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am not completely satisfied with the performance achieved today, because I think that I am faster than what I have showed. For what concerns tomorrow, I hope to do a really good take off and to make some overtakes throughout the race. I need to find my pace which until now it is good. I am sorry for my team, because I think that we are working really well, but we are not achieving the expected results. Tomorrow I think that I can do a good race.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “Wonderful qualifying for Romano who sealed a good time without the use of any contrail. Furthermore he showed off an excellent race pace. Alonso today accused some problems and tomorrow he will take off quit far. We hope that he will manage to do a good come back , even if he will have to serve the long lap penalty.”
