30 April 2022 – Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto – Spain
In qualifying of the Spanish Grand Prix, Ayumu finished seventh, while David finished sixteenth.
Tha Saturday at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit started with very good weather, as the sun marked all the sessions. The track for this reason has continued to rubberised and, thanks to the milder temperatures recorded in the morning sessions, in free practice 3 the times have dropped drastically, allowing all drivers to improve their chronometric references.
David had a remarkable improvement, managing to remove almost a second from his best lap and thus being third in the combined ranking. Even Ayumu managed to lower his time, being able to get the twelfth time.
Thanks to these excellent performances both our drivers have gained direct access to qualifying 2. The temperature on the ground at 13:00, start time of Q2, has risen, up to exceed 40ºC and this has made the track slower.
Even in these conditions however Ayumu managed to replicate the time of free practices. In fact, on the first lap, he got the time of 1’46.328, while on the next lap he managed to reduce a little bit his time, getting 1’46.312. With this performance, our Japanese driver has a delay from poleman I. Guevara of 0.432 s. David unfortunately failed to replicate the excellent time of FP3, 1’45.915. In qualifying, at the last of the six laps completed, he got the time of 1’47.242, with which he has a delay from the pole of 1.362 seconds.
We will leave you to the words of Ayumu, David and Max Biaggi, our Team Owner.
AYUMU SASAKI : “Qualifying was a little bit difficult, but we managed to finish in P7. In Jerez, the gaps between riders are very close, so it is always very difficult to make a perfect lap. In the qualifying as well, I did not perform a perfect lap, but I made a quite good one , so I am happy about that. Our race pace is very good, we have to keep being positive, and hopefully tomorrow we can fight for great positions.”
DAVID SALVADOR : “This morning in FP3 I had a good feeling, I was able to go quite strong, and I’m very happy about this. I was able to get straight into qualifying 2 and that is very positive. In Q2 I didn’t do very bad, considering that it is the first time I have gained access to this session. I could not repeat my best time, but it must be said that I made the time without following anyone. With the team I want to make some more changes before the race, to improve the braking phase.”
MAX BIAGGI – TEAM OWNER : “The increase in temperature has, as often happens here in Jerez, changed the values in the field. In the morning session our rookie Salvador got a good time, gaining direct access to Q2. This is a great result, since David is in his third race with us. Ayumu will start tomorrow from the seventh position, and we have already seen what he is capable of during the race, even starting further back. For this reason, also here I expect him to fight for the podium, as already happened in Portimão and Argentina.”
