19 July 2020 – Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto – Spain.
The Spanish Gran Prix ended with the thirteenth place sealed by Romano and the fourteenth place reached by Alonso. The winner of the race resulted to be A.Arenas followed by A.Ogura and T.Arbolino. The resulted obtained by our pilots in the warm up, allowed the Team to have good expectations for the race. Unfortunately the expected results did not arrive. 27° was the temperature in the air and 35° the one on the track. It follows the analysis of the performances of our two pilots.
Romano started rather good from the eighth place on the starting grid and he remained around that positions for more or less 10 laps. He limited under one second the gap from the leading group. At around half race he was subjected to some overtaking due this he reached the twelfth place. The group until that moment was rather close and the first twelve pilots were gapped by about one second. Unfortunately due to a little mistake at six laps from the end. Romano drifted in eighteenth place, back to back with his team mate. In the last laps thanks to some overtaking, to some falls, and to some penalties he succeeded to reach the thirteenth place, with a gap of 4.157 s from the leader. Romano had a good race pace and he sealed his best time in the second lap, with the time of 1’46.757.
Alonso started well from the twenty-seventh place and he succeeded to avoid an accident in the first corner, that involved two pilots. At the end of the first lap he resulted to be in twenty-first place. He had a good race pace, with a best lap of 1’46.831 realized in the thirteenth lap. Succeeded to climb up the ranking up to the eighteenth place. At 5 laps from the end he served a long penalty imposed by the direction of the race. The reason of this long penalty was that Alonso overtaken more than the allowed maximum the boundaries of the track. Coming back from the penalty Alonso was in twentieth place, but he was not so far from the pilots that preceded him. Thanks to a consistent race pace even in the last laps, he managed to ended in fourteenth place, with a gap of 6.086 s from the leader.
Here are the words of the protagonists.
Romano Fenati: “Today it was not the race that i have worked for but i am sure that we will try to do our best in the next weekend race. We need to work a little bit more. Personally i need to work on the braking in order to avoid the over use of the clutch. We need to both on the bike and on the rider in order to perform at our best.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am very happy to have earned points today because was a very difficult day. I am happy because I felt good on the bike and that is crucial for the next weekend. I am competitive at the moment but the most important aspect is that I need to improve my performances on Friday and Saturday. I would like to take the chance to thank my team and all the people that support me.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “It was not the race that i expected, but unfortunately both our drivers had a difficult race. Romano started in a good position but then throughout the race he was not be able to follow the leading group. He is struggling mostly on finding a way to reduce the speed in the corners. Alonso during the race has improved. He managed to have better feeling with his bike and he succeeded in gaining a lot of position throughout the race. This is good for the next race that will take place in the track with the same conditions. We hope to make a step forward in order to be more competitive the next weekend”
