18 July 2020 – Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto – Spain
In the free practice of this morning, unfortunately neither of our two pilots succeeded in sealing a time sufficient to directly pass at the qualifying 2. In the combined ranking of the free practice, Romano resulted to be in eighteenth place with the time of 1’46.552, sealed throughout the FP1. He has a gap from the leader G. Rodrigo in the combined ranking of 0.889 s. Alonso improved his time by 0.686 and succeeded to earn the twenty – first place, with a gap of 0.944 from the leader.
For what concerns the qualifying 1 it was held at a temperature in the air of 37° and on the asphalt of 47°. Alonso did 5 laps in two runs, realizing his best time 1’48.541 in the second lap. This time guaranteed him the twenty – seventh place on the starting grid of the Spanish GP.
Romano in the Q1 got last on track and he did 6 laps in one run. He did not any contrail and he succeeded in progressively improving his time. He sealed the time of 1’46.595, that resulted to be the best time in the qualifying 1.
A different approach was taken in the qualifying 2 for Romano. He did two runs, sealing his best time in the second lap of the first run. Our pilot realized the time of 1’46.238, with a gap of 0.773 s from the poleman T. Suzuki. Romano used only a tire and this did not allow him to improve in the second run. With this time tomorrow Romano will occupy the eighth place on the starting grid.
Here are the words of the protagonists.
Romano Fenati:”I am really happy with the qualifying, because we succeeded in doing a good time, even if i was alone on the track. Unfortunately we had only one tire and thus we did not manage to improve. I am happy of the bike and of my pace. We hope that tomorrow we will be able to do a good race.”
Alonso Lopez: “Today was not my best day, but for tomorrow i feel prepared. The bike is very comfortable to pass on brakes and this is crucial for tomorrow’s race. Tomorrow i hope to feel good and to pass the other pilots. My goal is to do the first part of the race at my best, so that i can fill the gap with the leaders, in order to fight for a good position.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “I am partially satisfied for the result obtained throughout the qualifying. Romano and his team were able to find something in the setting of the bike, that allow them to have a better feeling with the bike. He managed to easily pass the Q1 and to reach the eighth place in the ranking. I wish that tomorrow he will fight for the top positions. Alonso still has some issues of adaptation with this bike but i think that he needs only to do more kilometers, to regain the confidence with his bike. Anyway i expect that throughout the race he will be able to go up in the ranking, as he did in Qatar.”
