15 July 2020 – Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto.
After a long break due to the Coronavirus emergency the MotoGP is back on the Jerez de la Frontera Circuit, that in the past years has always marked the starting point of the Championship in Europe. Dorna worked really hard in order to restart the Championship, developing a security protocol that we are positive it will ensures a smooth progress of the season.
In the opening race, that took place four months ago on the Losail Circuit in Qatar, unfortunately the Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing Team did not obtain good results. The flue that struck Romano and the needed time for both of our pilots to get comfortable with the new Husqvarna FR250GP, prevented them from obtaining good performances. A thirteenth place for Alonso and a seventeenth place for Romano, represent the results of the GP in Qatar.
It is worth to mention that the original program for the weekend it will be preceded by a day devoted to tests in all the three classes, that will be held on Wednesday July 15th.
The following are the words of the protagonists.
Romano Fenati: “I am happy to be back here in Jerez to continue with the season. This has always been a special track for me! Here we cover a lot of kilometers and it is a fantastic place. I hope that the feeling with the bike will be on point and i hope that we will perform at our best.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am very happy to be back in Jerez, I love this track. I have missed racing a lot and at the same time the feeling with my bike. It is nice to be back in the circuit and i hope to have a good weekend and a good feeling with the bike as well.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “After a long and hard break, due to the Coronavirus emergency the MotoGP can finally start again. It has been the longest period of inactivity in the Championship history. With a lot of hard work Dorna succeeded in enforcing all the necessary measures, to work safely and this makes me extremely happy. It has been wonderful to get back with the team and especially with Romano and Alonso who are longing to get back on track.
Unfortunately in Qatar we did not start off in the best way possible but I am sure that this new beginning will allow us to obtain better results. There will be a lot of work to do, especially due to the warm temperature that we will face this weekend.
I am really proud to restart this new path together with Husqvarna Motorcycles and i hope we will perform as we expect.”
