17 October 2020 – MotorLand Aragón – Spain
The best result in the qualifying for our team from the beginning of the championship, has been achieved thanks to an impressive team work done by our pilots. Alonso will start from the fourth position and Romano from the sixth one.
Let us analyze the performance of our two pilots in this day of qualifying.
To avoid that the pilots would go on track with too low temperatures, the free practice 3 had been postponed by an hour and consequently also the qualifying had been delayed. Even if the start of the morning session had been postponed, the temperatures did not raise a lot compared to the ones registered yesterday morning and this has allowed only to 7 of the 30 pilots to improve their times. Both Alonso and Romano, thanks to the excellent times sealed in the FP2, have earned the direct access to the qualifying 2.
Throughout the qualifying the temperature reached 18° C in the air and 25° C on the ground, with an humidity rate equal to 39%. At the beginning of the qualifying 2, Alonso and Romano decided to exit the pit together, in order to take advantage of the slipstream of one another.
Alonso did 6 laps in only one run, sealing the time of 1’58.212 at the third lap, succeeding to take advantage of the slipstream of Romano. Alonso has a gap from the poleman R. Fernandez of 0.531 s. We remind that our Spanish pilot throughout the race will have to serve the long lap penalty, due to the crash occurred in the previous grand prix in which also his team mate was involved.
For what concerns Romano, 1’58.272 is his best time, realized at the second of the 6 laps done in only one run. He, also, had the chance to take advantage on the long straight line the slipstream of his team mate. He has a gap from the leader of the ranking of 0.591 s.
Before leaving the floor to the protagonists of this qualifying, we take the chance to remind that the schedule for the race of tomorrow will be different, since the Moto3 will start at 12 pm (GMT+2).
Romano Fenati: “I am satisfied with this qualifying, since the second row and the sixth position are a good result. The bike has improved a lot from yesterday, but especially from this morning. We hope to do a good race tomorrow.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am very happy with the result obtained today, because I earned the direct access to the Q2. I knew that I had a good rhythm to show off today and finally I made a good qualifying, that is the best that I have ever done so far this year. For tomorrow I hope to do a good start, do the long lap penalty and see what will happen later. I think to have the pace to be in the leading group, therefore I hope to do a very good race.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “The one obtained today is a great result for the whole Team. The slipstream is crucial in Moto3 and it is even more relevant on this track which has a long straight line. The collaboration between Romano and Alonso allowed both of them to obtain a spot in second row. After the crash in the previous grand prix, this is the best reaction that I could have ever hoped, for because of the result and the team spirit that is crucial. Now it is needed to confirm the results in the race.”
