16 October 2020 – MotorLand Aragón – Spain
The free practice of Friday on the MotorLand of Aragon ended with an excellent second place achieved by Romano and the tenth place of Alonso.
Throughout the morning session rather high times have been registered, if we compared them with the ones of the free practice 1 of the Grand Prix of last year and this happened due to the low temperatures. It is sufficient to think that in some spots of the track the temperature on the ground reached only 6° C.
In the free practice 1 Romano did thirteen laps, sealing as best lap 2’00.656. In the session that started at 1.15 pm the temperatures raised, indeed the temperature on the ground reached 21°C. Romano did 13 laps in 3 runs, lowering his morning time by 2.074 s. Indeed, his best lap is equal to 1’58.582 and he managed to obtain it at the eleventh lap. Romano has a gap from the leader of the combined ranking of the free practice, R. Fernandez, equal to 0.438 s.
For what concerns Alonso, in the FP1 he obtained his best time in 2’00.571, after sixteen laps done. He also managed to improve his performances in the afternoon session, when he obtained the time of 1’59.118. He did 12 laps in two runs and 0.974 s represents the gap of our pilot in the combined ranking.
Let us now leave the floor to the protagonists of this first day of free practice on the MotorLand of Aragon.
Romano Fenati: “The feeling with the bike is rather good, indeed we only have to improve a little bit the setting in sight of the qualifying of tomorrow. I believe that the weather conditions will be worse compared to the ones of Le Mans since it is colder and there is a lot of wind. We only hope that tomorrow morning it will not be so cold, in order to try some little modification to the setup of the bike.”
Alonso Lopez: “I am very satisfied with the result achieved today, because I think that it represents the best Friday that I have ever had so far. This is really important for the race, for which I feel more prepared than ever. I hope to do a good job tomorrow and on Sunday to do fast the long lap penalty, in order to stay with the leading group.”
Max Biaggi – Team Owner: “The morning session, held with rather low temperatures, has not been so indicative for what concerns the times and it was needed especially to take confidence with the track. In the afternoon session, thanks to the higher temperatures, higher times have been sealed. We ended the first day with both our pilots in the top ten, with Romano in second position and this is a really good result.”
