Gran Premio Liqui Moly de Teruel 2020 – Qualifying

24 October 2020MotorLand Aragón – Spain

In the qualifying of the Grand Prix of Teruel, unfortunately neither Romano nor Alonso succeeded to repeat the times that they sealed in the free practice 3 and this prevented them to start in the first rows tomorrow.

Romano in the last session of free practice, that was held this morning, obtained the time of 1’57.679. This performance allowed him to directly access to the qualifying 2, with a very small gap from the leader of the combined ranking, precisely equal to 0.115 s. Besides Romano resulted to be the fastest pilot in the first split time. The qualifying took place with a clear sky and a temperature in the air equal to 20°C and on the ground equal to 29°C. Romano did 6 laps without taking advantage of any slipstreams and sealing the time of 1’58.029 at the fourth lap. He showed off a good pace, indeed he repeated a similar time in other two laps. Our pilot has a gap from the poleman R. Fernandez of 0.830 s and tomorrow he will start from the thirteenth place on the grid.

For what concerns Alonso, 1’58.208 is his best lap of the three rounds of free practice. Unfortunately for a few thousandths he was out of the first fourteen of the combined ranking and he had to do the qualifying 1. Throughout the qualifying 1 he obtained the time of 1’58.341, with a gap from the leader of the ranking of 0.790 s. Six are the laps done and the best one was obtained at the second lap. Tomorrow Alonso will start from the seventh row in twenty-first place.

Let us now leave the word to the protagonists of today.

Romano Fenati: “I’m not happy with the qualifying. Tomorrow we must try to recover, making a good start and working 100%”

Alonso Lopez: “I am a little bit disappointed with the result obtained today, because I think that the position reached it does not reflect the work done. I felt really confident with the bike, even if I did not reached the expected result. For tomorrow I hope to do a good start and to find my rhythm soon, in order to overtake many riders. I think it is possible to have a good race. I would like to thank my team, because it is working very good.”

Max BiaggiTeam Owner: “Unfortunately we did not succeed to repeat the performances of last weekend and this will prevent us to start from the first rows. A real shame, because especially Romano in the free practice sealed very interesting time. I wish that both our pilots will do a good come back.”
