17 September 2022 – Motorland Aragón – Spain
Qualifying for the Aragon Grand Prix is a great team result, proving the great competitiveness of the whole Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing.
This result was achieved after a great job, which allowed our Ayumu to confirm his speed, from the first session of practice and that gave John the chance to overcome the problems with the brakes found yesterday, which strongly penalized him.
Therefore, tomorrow Ayumu will start from the second box on the grid, while John will start from the fifth position. Since this morning, in free practice 3, our two drivers have been very competitive, with Ayumu who conquered the fourth position of the combined and John, who got the eighth position.
The results on this track for the small Moto3, because of the long straight, are very dependent on the slipstream and the quality of the same, therefore in free practice 3, there were important gaps, unusual for this category. Unlike in qualifying, there have been smaller detachments. Specifically, Ayumu has a gap from poleman I. Guevara contained in 0.095 s, while 0.428 s is the gap recorded by John. It should be noted that both of our drivers made two runs during qualifying and both got their best laps during the first run.
Below you can find the words of our drivers and our Team Owner Max Biaggi.
AYUMU SASAKI : “I think was a good qualifying, I expected a little bit more for my lap time, but it is windy and is difficult to make lap time on my own, so I am happy with my lap. P2 tomorrow. I feel good on the bike, so hopefully tomorrow we can fight for the win, that is the target. We need to be careful the first three laps, trying to make a small group for the race and then we’ll see what we’re capable of doing.”
JOHN MCPHEE : “Today was definitely a positive day! Since FP3 I felt good with the brakes again. This was a positive step of course. In this way I was able to focus on my riding. I am fifth on the grid and the second row is a great starting point. I feel very strong. Regarding the race distance, we need to see, Because now this is my weak point. Overall things are going more positively, so I am excited for the race tomorrow.”
MAX BIAGGI – TEAM OWNER : “The behavior that some members of my team had today is unacceptable! I publicly apologize to the Tech3 Racing team and to Adriàn Fernàndez, for what happened. What we’ve seen was an unsolicited action, dangerous and not justifiable in any way by the code of ethics of my Team!
For this reason, all the responsible for this act will be appropriately punished.”
